Steve Boniferro began his working career as an underground miner in Elliot Lake, Ontario. While there, he began his career with the Steelworkers as president of the Steelworkers local union. Steve later joined the Steelworkers full time as a staff representative and was assigned the area of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. In 1990, he was promoted to the position of area coordinator for Northwestern Ontario, and part of that assignment meant working with Algoma Steel. In 1998, Mr. Boniferro joined Algoma Steel as vice president of human resources. He is accountable for organizational development, employee involvement, benefits and labour relations. Mr. Boniferro is a graduate of the Queen’s School of Business, Human Resources Program and an alumnus of the Governor General’s Commonwealth Conference. He has been a guest lecturer at Harvard and Oxford University. Mr. Boniferro is a past member of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Board where he served as Board Chair from 1996 to 2001. |
