Dr. Puckett is a registered patent attorney working primarily in the pharmaceutical and chemical sciences. Dr. Puckett’s practice is focused on a variety of intellectual property law issues including freedom to operate, patentability, and clearance opinion letters, ANDA paragraph IV certifications, patent procurement both domestic and foreign, and client counseling. Dr. Puckett has worked in areas including pharmaceuticals, drug formulations, biotechnology, small molecule work, nanotechnology, medical devices, polymers, adhesives, food additives in the United States and a variety of foreign countries. Within the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Puckett has procured patents for methods of treating a variety of diseases including cancer, anxiety, high cholesterol, and nervous disorders. Dr. Puckett’s international experience includes procuring patents in Europe, Australia, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, China, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, and Chile. In the United States, Dr. Puckett has extensive patent experience, which includes interviewing cases at the United States Patent and Trademark Office and arguing cases for his clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.
Dr. Puckett has extensive experience in counseling clients in developing their patent portfolio, obtaining opinion letters, and performing due diligence projects prior to acquiring the intellectual property of other companies. Dr. Puckett has authored opinion letters regarding freedom to operate, non-infringement, and invalidity opinions for pharmaceutical compounds, formulations, medical devices, diversified chemicals, and mechanical devices.
Dr. Puckett obtained his B.S. from UCLA, his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center. During his third year in law school Dr. Puckett served as an intern clerk to the Honorable Paul Michel of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and later as Director of the Franklin Pierce Innovation Clinic. Having grown up in Guatemala, Dr. Puckett is fluent in Spanish. |
