Bill Belk has nearly 35 years of dynamic experience in the fields of investment banking, marketing, corporate law, and merchandising. Currently, Bill acts as the primary consultant to national and international retail firms at Dragonfly Capital, LLC, and focuses primarily on mergers and acquisitions as well as capital raising initiatives. Additionally, he sits on the Board of Directors for Sonic Automotive Inc. one of the fastest-growing and largest automotive retailers in the United States where he serves as the Lead Independent Director and member of the Audit and Compensation committees. Furthermore, Bill serves on Monroe Hardware Company’s Board of Directors, working in a leadership capacity for a wholesale distributor with annual sales of $50 million. Formerly a practicing attorney, Bill Belk possesses a wealth of knowledge in the corporate legal arena, particularly concerning shareholder issues. He has served on high profile committees involving the impact of SEC regulations on the legal profession and once held a seat on the American Stock Exchange. For 23 years, Bill demonstrated his skills and talent at every level of enterprise at Belk Stores, ultimately serving as Chairman of the Board until 1996. At Belk Stores, Bill’s areas of expertise included returning financially unstable stores to profitability within one fiscal year, overseeing merchandising and inventory management and control, selecting store locations and negotiating real estate leases, applying new store designs to create new retail experiences, and designing short and long-term retail strategies to implement throughout the southeast region. Bill enjoys a long history of civic leadership. He has been honored by Rotary International for his exemplary performance as a district governor and was awarded the Presidential Citation for grass roots organizations. Throughout the years, he has held several positions on the board for numerous reputable organizations, including: the United States Olympic Committee, NC State Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, NC State Aquarium, Charlotte Symphony, Winthrop University Foundation, Emory University Business School, and was formerly president of the board at International House. Bill has demonstrated a commitment to political activism as well. He previously served as the leader of the American delegation to the first conference of the American council of Young Political Leaders from member nations. In addition, he has acted as a representative of the U.S. State Department in Africa, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East. Lastly, Bill served the political community as former National President of Young Democrats of America. Bill Belk has an extensive educational background. In 1971, he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill. In 1973, he earned his Master of Business Administration from Emory University, then, in 1983, he received his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University. He also holds a Master’s in Law and Taxation from Emory University. |
