William T. Quillen is of counsel in the firm's Wilmington office. He focuses his practice on arbitration and mediation.
During his long and illustrious career, Bill has held many distinguished posts in the government of Delaware and in private practice. Among other positions in the public sector, Bill has served as administrative assistant to the governor of Delaware, as a judge of the Delaware Superior Court, as a chancellor of the Delaware Court of Chancery, as a justice of the Delaware Supreme Court, and as Delaware's secretary of state.
Bill was appointed by the governor of Delaware in 2003 to lead a task force investigating the environmental, administrative and financial factors that resulted in the bankruptcy of Metachem Products, which operated a chemical factory in Delaware.
In the private sector, Bill has served as a senior vice president and director of Wilmington Trust Company, as vice president and general counsel of Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and as a director of Delaware Trust Company. He has practiced law at Richards Layton & Finger and at Potter Anderson & Corroon in Wilmington, Delaware.
Bill has been a distinguished visiting professor of law at Widener University School of Law, where he continues to teach constitutional law on an adjunct basis. He has published a number of articles on topics ranging from corporate law to the history of the Delaware courts. He also presently serves as a director of University of Delaware Library Associates, Inc.
In General. Bill received the American Judicature Society's Herbert Harley Award in 1998. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Delaware State Bar Association.
Bill is an elder at the New Castle Presbyterian Church in New Castle, Delaware, where he lives with his wife, Marcia Stirling Quillen. They have two daughters and three grandchildren. |
