William P. Henson is a co-founder of Grail and headed the company's merchant banking activities until October, 2007. Bill's focus is on the origination, execution and management of Grail Partners' principal investments. Since October, 2007 Bill has served as CEO of XShares Group, a Chalice Fund portfolio company, while retaining his active partnership position with Grail. He has spent 30 years in financial services, developing and providing corporate finance and capital raising solutions to firms of all sizes. In 1996, he joined Putnam Lovell Securities (later Putnam Lovell NBF) as co-founder and head of the Corporate Finance Group. Over the next five years, Putnam Lovell originated and structured nearly $1.5 billion in asset-backed securities, financing more than $25 billion in mutual fund and variable annuity sales during that time. During his tenure at Putnam Lovell, he assumed increasing responsibilities, culminating in the positions of Chief Operating Officer, Head of Capital Markets and member of the Board of Directors. At Putnam Lovell NBF, Bill assumed the position of Head of Client Finance at Putnam Lovell NBF Securities and was also a member of the NBF Underwriting and Operating Committees. He was responsible for the creation and development of Asset Management Finance, a specialized finance company targeted to privately-held investment managers, launched in late 2003 and initially capitalized with $90 million from Pacific Life and National Bank of Canada. From 1984 to 1996, he was with Citicorp Securities, Inc. In his last position there, he was Managing Director and Industry Head in the Corporate Finance Group. In his capacity as a senior credit and securities officer, he led the group responsible for originating and executing dozens of structured finance transactions across numerous asset classes and industries. He pioneered the development within the investment management industry to finance the distribution of retail packaged investment products in the capital markets, inventing an asset class well in excess of $5 billion.
