William Stakelin Biography :

Mr. Stakelin is a native of Georgetown, KY. He received his B.A. Degree from Georgetown College in 1966.

Mr. Stakelin began his broadcast career at the age of 14 at WGOR Radio in Georgetown, KY. He worked his way through college as manager of the campus radio station. That station later was named after Mr. Stakelin in recognition of his career accomplishments.

After graduation from Georgetown, Mr. Stakelin became operations manager of WVLK AM/FM in Lexington, KY. He spent 17 years with the parent company, Bluegrass Broadcasting, where over time; he became Executive-Vice President/Chief Operating Officer. During this period, Mr. Stakelin had operating responsibility for seven radio and two television stations.

Mr. Stakelin gained national recognition in 1983, when he was selected as President/Chief Executive Officer of the Radio Advertising Bureau, headquartered in New York, with offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta and Detroit. The RAB is a national association representing over 5,000 radio stations in America.

In 1988, Mr. Stakelin co-founded Apollo Radio LTD., to acquire and operate radio stations. Apollo Radio merged in 1994 with Regent Communications of Covington, KY and Mr. Stakelin, in addition to his ownership position, became Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the new company. Regent was sold to Jacor Communications of Cincinnati in February of 1997.

Mr. Stakelin co-founded Regent II Communications in 1996 and conducted a very successful IPO in January of 2000. Regent, which currently owns and operates 73 stations in 15 markets, trades on NASDAQ under the symbol RGCI.

Mr. Stakelin, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, has been very active in many industry groups. He has served as Radio Chairman and Joint Board Chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters, and is also a current or past board member of The Radio Advertising Bureau, The National Advertising Council, Associated Press, Kentucky Broadcasters Association, Florida Broadcasters Association, ABC Radio Affiliates, The Broadcasters Foundation, The Bayliss Foundation and is a member of the University of Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. Mr. Stakelin was the recipient of The National Radio Award from the National Association of Broadcasters in 1999, The Kevin B. Sweeney Award for Excellence in 2003 from the Radio Advertising Bureau in 2003, and was nominated as Radio Executive of the Year 2004 by Radio and Records Magazine. Mr. Stakelin was honored by Georgetown College with an Honorary Doctorate of Laws Degree.
