William J. Furey is one of the founding partners at Cassiday Schade LLP. He has also been a member and chairman of the firm's Executive Committee. Mr. Furey concentrates his practice in the areas of construction law, products liability, and negligence litigation. Mr. Furey chairs the Construction Law Practice Group and has been engaged in the full-time practice of civil litigation in Chicago for over 29 years. Mr. Furey's experience includes a strong background in products liability, medical malpractice, general liability, insurance coverage, and construction litigation. For nearly 20 years, however, his practice has been dedicated almost exclusively to the representation of large general contractors, developers, owners, architects, and engineers. Mr. Furey's background includes handling all phases of litigation through and including the appellate process. He has successfully argued in the Illinois Supreme Court. He has conducted continuing education programs for attorneys, claims personnel, risk management personnel, and management, as well as field personnel in the construction industry. He has periodically enrolled in continuing education programs on a variety of subjects, including construction industry risk management (offered through the University of Wisconsin School of Engineering). He has also written articles for a variety of trade publications in the construction industry (i.e., Safety Considerations in Job Specifications, Jean Golden and William Furey, The Construction Specifier [Vol. 47 11-94]). Mr. Furey and the rest of the Construction Law Practice Group have expertise and substantial experience in working directly with self-insured owners, architects, engineers and general contractors in carefully administered risk-management programs wherein those parties are important financial players. Those cooperative efforts extend from the pre-construction phase through project completion and focus on providing clients with effective, aggressive representation at a reasonable cost.
