Mr. Rankin joined UQM Technologies, Inc. in February 1992 as Executive Vice President and was promoted to President in 1996 and CEO in 1999. He is responsible for overall company operations, including its wholly owned subsidiary, UQM Power Products (motors) located in Frederick, Colorado.
Before joining UQM, Mr. Rankin was employed by Deere & Company for 16 years and was responsible for Computer Integrated Manufacturing worldwide for Deere's complete line of equipment and vehicle products. He established and was General Manager of a new business venture - Deere Tech Services - that served clients including Jaguar Motor Company, GM Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac Division, Motor Coach Industries and the Boeing Company.
Prior to joining Deere & Company, Mr. Rankin served as chief of the Weapon System Simulation and Technology Division at the U.S. Army's Rock Island Arsenal, as a military operations research analyst developing combat simulation models at Booz Allen & Hamilton and as a 1st Lieutenant combat engineering officer in the U.S. Army, including with the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star with first Oak Leaf Cluster.
Mr. Rankin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Mathematics from the Colorado School of Mines in 1965. He later received a Master of Science degree in Systems Management from the Florida Institute of Technology. He is a member of a number of technical societies, has made numerous presentations at national conferences and symposia and is often called upon as an industry spokesman on alternative energy technologies. |
