Wes Thompson heads the Employer Markets area of Lincoln Financial Group. Thompson has over 20 years experience in the financial services industry. Throughout his career, he has built some of the most successful distribution businesses in the industry. In fact, he was one of the early visionaries to recognize the importance of a centralized, customer-focused and solutions-based wholesaling organization the genesis of Lincoln Financial Distributors, which was officially formed in early 2001. Thompson started his career at Aetna in 1979 as an executive management intern. He went on to a series of assignments of increasing responsibilities within Aetna’s personal financial security division, including: regional sales manager, field management; director for technology strategy; assistant vice president, field operations and vice president, Aetna sales centers. In 1991, he was assigned to lead a major reengineering initiative that subsequently resulted in Aetna’s redesign and refocus of the individual life strategic business unit, including its distribution strategy. The reengineering initiative resulted in a dramatic turnaround in results for the business unit. In 1994, Thompson joined CIGNA to build an independent brokerage distribution capability for CIGNA’s individual insurance division. The brokerage business achieved year-over-year sales growth of 100% for its first five years. He joined Lincoln Financial Group in 1998, through the company’s acquisition of CIGNA individual insurance, and served as the senior vice president of Lincoln Life Distributors, prior to his current responsibilities. Thompson received a bachelor’s degree from Brown University. He is an active board member of LIMRA International and several community based organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Hartford and the Wadsworth Antheneum-Amistad Foundation. Thompson has been actively involved in youth soccer development programs for the past 15 years. |
