Since 1996, Wesley von Schack has been Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Energy East Corporation, a super regional energy delivery and services company, with electric and natural gas operations in upstate New York and throughout New England. Under his leadership, Energy East Corporation was created through five major acquisitions and the successful integration of six investor owned utilities and various competitive enterprises. It has annual revenues of $5 billion and over $11 billion in assets.
Mr. von Schack is currently Lead Director of Mellon Financial Corporation, Chairman - Elect of AEGIS Insurance Company, a member of the Board of Directors of Gettysburg Foundation, American Gas Association Foundation, and a member of the President's Council - Peconic Land Trust.
Since January 1989, Mr. von Schack has been a member of the Mellon Financial Corporation Board of Directors; the Mellon Executive Committee from August 1991 to present; the Mellon Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee from April 1994 to present; Chairman of the Mellon Community Responsibility Committee from November 1991 to April 2002; and a member of the Mellon Compensation Committee from April 1994 to April 2006 and its Chairman from April 1999 to April 2006. In April of 2006, he was elected Chairman of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and Lead Director.
Mr. von Schack has been a member of the AEGIS Insurance Company Board of Directors from December 1997 to the present; the AEGIS Executive Committee from September 2001 to present; and Chairman of the AEGIS Finance & Audit Committee from September 2001 to present. In February 2006, he was elected Chairman of the Board, effective January 2007.
He served on the RTI International Metals, Inc. Board of Directors from 1991 to 2003 and was Chairman of the RTI Audit Committee from 1995 to 2003.
Prior to Energy East, from 1986 to 1996, he was the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of DQE, a diversified energy services company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During his tenure in Pittsburgh, he was Chairman of the Pennsylvania Business Roundtable, Chairman of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Chairman of the Regional Industrial Development Corporation of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Chairman of the Greater Pittsburgh Council - Boy Scouts of America, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Life Trustee of Carnegie Mellon University, and a member of the Pittsburgh Branch of The Federal Reserve Bank - Cleveland.
Mr. von Schack has an A.B. in Economics from Fordham University, an M.B.A. from St. John's University, and a Doctorate Degree from Pace University. |
