Mr. Franklin has been in the exploration and production segment of the petroleum industry for 34 years and spent over 16 years in senior management positions for Tenneco Oil Company and Fina Oil and Chemical Company. Mr. Franklin has a B.S. in Geology from Washington State University and an M.S. in Geology from Oregon State University. He is currently the Executive Vice President of Touchstone Resources U.S.A., Inc.
He began his career as an offshore geologist for Gulf Oil Company in 1969 in Morgan City, Louisiana. In 1973, Mr. Franklin joined Tenneco Oil Company's Bakersfield office in 1973, where he was associated with successful oil discoveries of over 150 million barrels.
In 1982 he was transferred to Tenneco's Southwestern Division ( Permian Basin and southern New Mexico), where he directed exploration programs resulting in nearly 400 billion cubic feet of gas. Within Tenneco, he advanced held positions of both Division Geologist and Division Geological Engineer in the Pacific Coast Division, then Exploration Manager and Division Manager in the Southwestern Division. His group in San Antonio successfully replaced produced reserves for 7 consecutive years.
Following the sale of Tenneco Oil Company in 1988, Mr. Franklin joined Fina Oil and Chemical Company as Division Manager of the South Texas Division, later becoming General Manager of Exploration for North America.
Since his retirement from Fina in 1997, Mr. Franklin has been an active consultant in both domestic and international exploration plays. Domestically, he has been involved in the onshore and offshore in the Gulf of Mexico region, West Texas and New Mexico, Oklahoma, Mississippi, a number of basins in the Rocky Mountain region, Nevada, California, and the Williston Basin. Internationally, his work has been in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, Belize, Columbia, Thailand, New Zealand, North Africa, Kazakhstan and Russia.
Mr. Franklin is a registered geologist with both the state of Washington and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and he is a member of SPE and SE G. Mr. Franklin believes that oil and gas exploration must be economical and it must define the risks, whether opportunities are domestic or international, onshore or offshore. |
