Walter ("Terry") Birkel has engaged exclusively in private practice in Washington, D.C. His practice focuses on civil and administrative litigation.
Mr. Birkel began with the law firm of Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan. He has tried numerous cases in the state and federal courts in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland, and in federal courts throughout the country. He has a diverse litigation practice, and has been retained both as defense and plaintiff's counsel in complex commercial and business tort litigation. He has handled government contracts cases, wrongful death and personal injury matters, Title VII and related employment disputes, medical malpractice, and securities and commodities fraud cases, among other matters. In the last decade he has maintained an active plaintiff's qui tam practice as well. Mr. Birkel is a trained mediator/arbitrator for the D.C. Superior Court and is frequently retained to pursue alternative dispute remedies.
Mr. Birkel graduated from Harvard Law School with honors in 1973. He is a member of the District of Columbia bar. |
