Dr. Walter Shields is a Principal with Exponent's Environmental Sciences practice based in Bellevue Washington. Dr. Shields is a soil scientist specializing in the study of transport and geochemical fate of toxic pollutants. He has more than 24 years of experience in conducting and managing environmental studies in over 25 states. At many sites nationwide Dr. Shields has provided scientific and strategic consultation to industrial clients regarding the design of CERCLA and RCRA investigations cost-effective remediation approaches cost apportionment and recovery and has provided technical support during negotiations with state and federal agencies. Dr. Shields has extensive experience in the development implementation and management of remedial investigations and feasibility studies for sites with organic and inorganic contamination of surface water groundwater soil air sediments and biota. Dr. Shields has specialized environmental expertise in two industry sectors (forest products and mining/smelting). In addition he has served as an expert witness in Superfund-related litigation and has testified on the impacts of chemicals and land disturbance on soils and water quality. Dr. Shields has a Ph.D. in Soil Science from the University of Wisconsin. |
