Vann Canada has been engaged in the private practice of law in Maryland and the District of Columbia since 1966, with an emphasis on the representation of financial institutions and insurance companies in commercial litigation as well as financial transactions. A major area in Mr. Canada’s practice involves the representation of title insurers and their insured's regarding title insurance claims.With assistance and experience of lawyers in each of the several offices of Miles & Stockbridge, Mr. Canada is able to handle and resolve title insurance claims throughout the entire State of Maryland, the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia. This group of lawyers has been involved in several major precedent setting cases, including: Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation v. CAE-Link Corp., 878 F.Supp. 767, affirmed 45 F.3d 426 (4th Cir. 1994); Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation v. Rex Title, Inc., 282 F.3d 292 (4th Cir. 2002); Stevens v. United General Title Insurance Company, 801 A.2d 61 (D.C.App. 2002); and Eastern Savings Bank, fsb v. Pappas, 829 A.2d 953 (D.C.App. 2003). In addition to litigation related to title insurance, Mr. Canada is involved in representing financial institutions with regard to the origination, documentation and closing of loan transactions. In many instances, he is also involved in commercial litigation on behalf of these financial institutions.
