Mr. McDaniel was Vice President & Corporate Auditor for 1st Nationwide Bank, Westfield, NJ. His 38 years in banking included United Jersey Banks, Hackensack, NJ; Midlantic Banks, Inc, West Orange, NJ; American National Bank, NJ primarily in the audit and security capacity.
W. Valen McDaniel joined Community Bank System, Inc. (CBSI) in June 1991 as Vice President. He acts as liaison for all external audit or exams by outside auditors and regulators. He is responsible for the audit function, compliance, loan review and security of the bank and all subsidiaries. He is a member of the acquisition and merger team and usually manages the due diligence effort. In addition, he manages the insurance portfolio, including claims processing & recovery, and disaster planning. Further, he acts as in-house counsel to review all contracts and leases entered into by the holding company and its subsidiaries to limit unnecessary liability. He was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer and was appointed to the CBSI Senior Management Committee in August 2003.
He holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration (accounting), and an MBA degree in Senior Bank Management. He is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA), a Certified Risk Professional (CRP) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
Mr. McDaniel was selected by the Presidential sub-committee Financial Services Volunteer Corps to assist the Albanian Central Bank in March 2001, and the Croatian National Bank in September 2001 to develop their internal audit function. He also conducted a seminar for the Warsaw, Poland banking conference in October 2001. He presented at the Russian Microfinance Center in Moscow in December 2004 and assisted Russian commercial banking in Siberia in August 2005.
Mr. McDaniel is involved in several community activities in his hometown of Cazenovia, New York, including the Cazenovia American Legion Post 88. He also serves on the Board of Governors for the Central New York Institute of Internal Auditors, chairs the CIA program and is a past chapter president. |
