Troy Murray made his debut as the color analyst for Blackhawk Hockey on November 14, 2003, replacing Dale Tallon who stepped aside to assume the role of assistant general manager before being elevated to general manager.
Murray was originally selected by the Blackhawks in the 3rd Round, 51st overall, in the 1980 NHL Draft. In parts of 12 seasons (1981-91, 1992-94) playing for the Blackhawks, he ranks 14th on the teams all-time assists list (291), 15th all-time in points (488), 18th all-time in goals (197) and 19th all-time in games played (688).
Troy posted his best year in the NHL while with the Blackhawks during the 1985-86 campaign. He became the first Blackhawk to win the Frank J. Selke Award for the NHL's top defensive forward for his performance that season. That same season (1985-86) also saw him notch career-highs in goals (45), assists (54) and points (99).
A five-time twenty goal scorer and veteran of 15 NHL seasons, Murray appeared in 915 career NHL games scoring 230 goals and 354 assists for 584 points and 875 penalty minutes while playing for the Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins and the Colorado Avalanche. He also appeared in 113 playoffs games recording 17 goals and 26 assists for 43 points and 145 penalty minutes. Troy was a member of the Colorado Avalanche's 1995-96 Stanley Cup Championship team.
A pillar in the community, Troy, his wife, Konnie and three children, Blake, Julia and Phoebe, have maintained a residence in Chicago throughout his entire playing career. While serving as the studio analyst for television broadcasts of Blackhawks hockey for five seasons (1999-2000 to 2003-04), Troy also worked as a trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange |
