Troy Foster focuses his practice on defending management and individuals in discrimination and wrongful termination claims. He has defended employers, including school districts and tribal clients, against claims of sexual harassment and age, race, gender and disability discrimination. He proactively advises employers how to prevent claims before they occur. To that end, he frequently trains supervisors and managers and was recently asked to conduct a training that was filmed for an NBC television pilot. His practice also encompasses review and revisions to company handbooks and policies, and day-to-day counseling on hiring, discipline and termination practices.
Representative clients include employers from a wide variety of industries, from large publicly traded businesses to municipalities. Troy has represented clients in pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, securities, insurance, banking, finance, economic development, aviation, restaurant, automotive, education, engineering, construction, as well as many government agencies.
Prior to joining Ford & Harrison, Troy was the head of the Labor and Employment section of a Phoenix law firm. Earlier in his career, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Barry Silverman of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and to the Honorable Edward C. Voss of the Arizona Court of Appeals. Additionally, Troy served on the staff of Congressman Bob Stump in Washington, DC. Prior to practicing law, he worked in the corporate world as a human resources director for a large retail chain.
He is a member of the Maricopa County Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. He serves on the Arizona Supreme Court's Committee on Character and Fitness and the Arizona State Bar's Fee Arbitration Committee and was appointed as a judge pro tem in 2004-2007. The Arizona Supreme Court also appointed him to a task force on attorney admissions. Troy was an adjunct faculty to Arizona State University, teaching courses in substantive and procedural criminal law, organized crime and persuasive writing.
Serving his community, Troy is on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement Arizona and Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona. He is also a member of the Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce. He served as the Executive Director for "Standup for Kids" in Phoenix, an organization dedicated to assisting homeless teens, from 1999 to 2001. He was also the Corporate Faculty Chair for the ALS Association, which fights Lou Gehrig's disease, in 2003 and 2004.
Troy is an Editor of the Arizona Employment Law Letter. His published works include "The Constitutional Defense Council," 26 Arizona State Law Journal 1995 and he narrates a training video for employers about sexual harassment titled "Respect - The Universal Language." During law school, he served as the Editor-in-Chief for the Arizona State Law Journal.
