I’m one of four employee relations team members based in the Brisbane office; however, don’t expect to find any of us in Brisbane! We support a number of projects at any one time. For me, the ability to step into a field role for a short period of time and successfully improve employee relations on a project is one of the most interesting and challenging aspects of my role.
During the last three years in Brisbane, I’ve had the opportunity to provide support on a variety of projects at different stages of development, including the Fjarðaál aluminum smelter project in Iceland. It’s been a great opportunity to shape things from an employee relations perspective. However, what really stands out for me are the people that I’ve met. The environment that we work in is challenging, both in terms of the type of work and from a personal perspective. These challenges bring us together, and in some cases, lead to lifelong friendships.
