Tracey Appelbaum is responsible for MacFarlane Partners’ urban investment activities in the northeastern United States, which include building and maintaining business relationships with development partners as well as sourcing, negotiating and closing investments in real estate development, redevelopment and repositioning projects. She has 19 years of real estate investment, development and management experience.Prior to joining MacFarlane Partners, Tracey was vice president, development for AvalonBay Communities, a publicly traded real estate investment trust that develops and owns multifamily residential properties. Responsible for the New York metropolitan region, she oversaw the site assemblage, land acquisition, entitlement, design, construction and lease-up of more than 4,000 apartment units in the region with an aggregate value of $875 million.Tracey began her real estate career as a product manager and assistant portfolio manager for Equitable Real Estate Investment Management. There, she was responsible for its Prime Property Fund a $3.5 billion commingled fund consisting of trophy retail, office, industrial and hotel properties and two specialized commingled funds that invested in new development and rehabilitation projects. Tracey also was as a housing associate for The Atlanta Project, a public/private partnership begun by former President Jimmy Carter to revitalize economically disadvantaged urban neighborhoods in the Atlanta area. She formerly served on the advisory board of The Wharton Real Estate Center, and for six years organized the annual Marshall Bennett Honorary Real Estate Conference for young real estate professionals. Tracey earned a master’s degree in business administration, with honors, from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
