Mr. Vargas has served as Vice President of Geosciences for BPZ Energy and its affiliates since 1997. He is a petroleum geologist and his areas of expertise include oil and gas exploration and subsurface control for producing operations. His responsibilities include geophysical surveys geologic mapping prospect identification and development and locating and recommending drill-sites. Mr. Vargas has over 30 years of experience in international exploration particularly Argentina Libya and Peru. He has served in senior technical positions with Pluspetrol Petrolera Argentina San Jorge and Occidental where he spent the first 17 years of his career. Mr. Vargas specializes in basin analysis and petroleum systems analysis. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and a Master of Science degree in Geology from the Instituto Mexicano de Petróleo D.F. Mexico.
