Tom West joined Pioneer, a subsidiary of DuPont, in June of 2000. He holds the title of: Vice President, Biotech Affairs and Business Support and serves on the Pioneer Management Committee and the DuPont Agriculture and Nutrition platform team. His responsibilities include:

In addition to his Pioneer responsibilities, Tom is director of Biotechnology Affairs for DuPont. In this role, he is responsible for coordinating efforts in regulatory, government, industry and public affairs across the Company as it relates to the stewardship and public acceptance of new products from biotechnology. Tom also chairs the DuPont Biotechnology Network.
After receiving his B.S. in chemical engineering from Penn State, Tom joined DuPont as a research engineer in DuPont Nylon. His 30+ year career with DuPont has included assignments in Europe as director of Engineering Fibers and business director of Nylon. He has an extensive operations leadership background as well as employee relations, and sales and marketing experience in key global markets.
Before coming to Pioneer, Tom served as director of special projects for DuPont Nylon. Prior to this assignment, he was the global business director for Sontara, a specialty non-woven business based in Nashville, Tenn.
Tom is currently a member of the Crop Life International Plant Biotech Strategy Council and the Council for Biotechnology Information Executive Committee; he also served as co-chair of the Executive Committee for BIO 2006, the Biotech Industry’s annual convention in Chicago.
In 2006, he received the highest honor granted by the Penn State University College of Engineering the Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award. This award recognizes alumni for their exceptional professional achievements. Tom also serves on the Penn State University Industrial and Professional Advisory Council for the Chemical Engineering Department.
Outside of Pioneer, Tom has volunteered his time in the Des Moines area as a member of the Greater Des Moines Partnership Board of Directors, the University of Iowa College of Public Health External Advisory Board, Central Iowa United Way serving as the 2004 Campaign Chair, the National Conference of Community and Justice and the National FFA Foundation Sponsor's Board.
Tom and his wife, Nancy, have three grown children. She is an elementary teacher specializing in reading for the Des Moines Public Schools.
