Tom McMahon Biography :

Tom McMahon embarks on his Falcons coaching career with 15 years of college experience under his belt. McMahon will assist Jerry Rosburg with the Falcons' special teams units and also Kevin Wolthausen with the team's defensive line.

McMahon served as the Outside Linebackers and Special Teams coach at Louisville in his lone season with the Cardinals in 2006. Under his direction, kicker Art Carmody was selected to the All-Big East first-team after connecting on 21 of 25 field goals and 60 PATs, which includes connecting on 5 of 5 field goals of 40 or more yards. For his efforts, Carmody was also honored as the Lou Groza Award winner, which is given annually to the nation's top kicker. LB Malik Jackson was named an All-Big East selection and led the Cardinals in sacks with nine under McMahon's tutelage last year.

Similar to head coach Bobby Petrino, McMahon is a native of Helena, Montana, and attended Carroll College.

Prior to his one season at Louisville, McMahon was an assistant coach at Utah State for eight seasons and spent 11 years with the Aggie program. His eight-year tenure as an assistant at Utah State was the fourth-longest in school history. McMahon replaced Tony Levine, who left to take a job as an assistant special teams coach with the Carolina Panthers. McMahon coached the Defensive Line at Utah State for five seasons and also served as the Special Teams Coordinator from 1998-2000. He also spent five seasons as a Recruiting Coordinator.

McMahon, 37, originally joined the Utah State staff under John L. Smith in 1995, serving three years as a graduate assistant with the defensive ends. One of his players, Ben Crosland, earned Big West defensive player of the year honors in 1997. McMahon was named a full-time assistant coach in 1998 and spent the next three seasons working with the Aggie line-backers. During that time, he coached first-team All-League selections Brent Passey, Blake Eagal, Jesse Busta and Big West Defensive Player of the Year Tony D'Amato.

In 2004 and 2005, defensive lineman Ronald Tupea was named second-team All-Sun Belt Conference while being coached by McMahon. John Chick was also a first team All-WAC selection under McMahon.

A native of Helena, Montana, McMahon began his coaching career at his alma mater, Carroll College. After concluding his four-year playing career as a quarterback, he continued as the school's Secondary Coach in 1992 and 1994. In between, he spent one season at Bozeman (MT) High School.

Born on July 12, 1969, McMahon and his wife, Kim, have three children, Dawson, Emmett and Quincy. McMahon earned his bachelor's degree in math and secondary coach education at Carroll in 1992 and added a master's degree in secondary education from Utah State in 1997.
