Tom Johnson, Global Imaging Systems' founder, launched the business in 1994. After spending 10 years studying the office equipment industry through the eyes of his competition, he partnered with GTCR, a private venture capital firm, to turn his ideas into reality. A graduate of Harvard Business School, Johnson was with Alco Standard for 14 years. He held various staff and operating positions until he left in 1989 as V.P. of Operations of the Office Products Division. At Alco, he was responsible for acquisitions and turning around under-performing operations. When he left Alco Office Products in 1989, it was at $500 million in revenues. From 1989-1990, Mr. Johnson served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Danka Business Systems, and helped it grow from $80 million in revenues to $200 million in revenues. Prior to founding Global Imaging Systems, he was an industry consultant assisting more than 25 independent dealers and leading copier manufacturers. As a consultant, he helped his clients improve their operations and grow through acquisitions. |
