Tom Griffith Biography :

Tom has been in broadcasting for the past 30 years, the last 20 at WMUR-TV. He has been at the anchor desk longer than anyone in WMUR-TV history. Currently, he co-anchors WMUR News 9 at 6 p.m. and WMUR News 9 Tonight at 11 p.m. He also co-hosts New Hampshire Chronicle week nights at 7:30 p.m. Since his arrival in 1988, WMUR News 9 newscasts have won countless awards for spot news, overall coverage and election coverage. He has moderated dozens of political debates and forums for statewide offices as well as the New Hampshire Presidential Primary. Griffith has also provided analysis of the New Hampshire Primary on CNN, C-SPAN and FOX. He has interviewed countless presidents and presidential candidates over the years and has played himself, the New Hampshire newscaster, in the movie "Primary Colors" starring John Travolta in 1998. Prior to his arrival in New Hampshire in 1988, he anchored at WSYX-TV in Columbus, Ohio, from 1982-1987. He also anchored and reported at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Ky., and WTOV-TV in Wheeling, W. Va., and Steubenville, Ohio. Before his work in television, he anchored morning drive radio at WDEL-AM in Wilmington, Del., and delivered the news on Top 40 rocker WAMS-AM. From 1983 to 1986, Griffith hosted "Discover Columbus," a magazine program featuring in part the animals of Jack Hanna, Director of the Columbus Zoo. Hanna's antics on the program gained national attention and helped launch his television career on Good Morning America. His coverage of military operations in Great Britain in 1986 won him the Associated Press award for the best series reporting in Ohio. He anchored tornado coverage in 1987 that was honored by the Ohio Associated Press as the states' best spot news coverage. And in 1991, a planned trip to the Persian Gulf with the New Hampshire National Guard was cut short by the start of the Gulf War. Griffith has hosted the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon for more than 25 years and is an active supporter of countless organizations throughout New Hampshire. Tom and Janice have three children and together they reside along the New Hampshire Seacoast.
