Tim Dehne Biography :

Tim Dehne senior vice president of R&D leads the National Instruments global R&D organization and is responsible for product development and quality. In his nearly 20 years at National Instruments Tim has helped shape the company's marketing and R&D departments and has played a significant role in expanding the company's operations around the globe.

Dehne came to NI in 1987 as an applications engineer. In 1988 he was promoted to the role of instrument control product manager where he helped grow the company's industry-leading GPIB product line. In this role he led the introduction of an entire line of new products and technologies that incorporated the IEEE 488.2 standard protocol for programmable instrumentation.

In 1991 Dehne became manager of strategic marketing and worked in the following three years to establish a centralized marketing model with local operations in the company's new international branch offices. Dehne was promoted to vice president of strategic marketing in 1994 and then to vice president of marketing in 1995 where he was responsible for worldwide marketing initiatives. As vice president of marketing Dehne combined strategic marketing and marketing communications operations and oversaw the introduction of several of the most successful NI products including LabVIEW graphical development software for the PC and E Series data acquisition devices which are de facto industry standards today.

In 1998 Dehne took on a new role of leading the National Instruments R&D organization as vice president of engineering. He again played a key role in the global expansion of the company this time leading efforts to open R&D centers in Germany China and India. Under his direction NI R&D has developed and adopted global strategies processes and metrics for successfully innovating quality products that lead to worldwide customer success. As part of the company's strategic investment in R&D Dehne continued to grow the R&D department through the 2001 economic downturn helping the company gain market share by releasing a record number of new products. In his current role Dehne continues to be instrumental in shaping NI into an industry leader and innovator in measurement and automation and positioning the company for future growth.

Dehne is recognized throughout the industry for his insight regarding measurement and automation industry trends and R&D management. He has given keynote speeches at several industry events has authored and served as a source for articles in numerous engineering magazines and serves on the editorial advisory board for R&D Magazine. In addition he is a member of the Dwight Look College of Engineering External Advisory Council at Texas A&M University is a former member of the Electrical and Computer Engineering External Advisory Committee at the University of Texas at Austin and currently serves as the executive sponsor of the NI academic relations program for Rice University in Houston Texas.

Dehne earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1987 from Rice University where he also was a member of the Rice University baseball team. In 2005 the university honored him with the Outstanding Young Engineering Alumnus Award.

Dehne currently resides in Austin Texas with his wife Stacey and their five children Matthew Catherine Sean Ashley and Brian. Dehne continues to play organized baseball in his spare time.
