Thomas Von Essen began his career as a firefighter and served in the turbulent South Bronx during the early 70's when fires were raging daily. He was appointed Fire Commissioner by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani on April 1, 1996. Commissioner Von Essen made sweeping changes in the Department. He also developed extraordinary commitments from public and private sources that allowed the department to acquire among other things the very latest equipment including thermal imaging cameras, integrated personal alarm devices for every member.After Sept 11 Commissioner Von Essen worked hand in hand with Mayor Giuliani and other top City, State and federal officials, insured that operations of the Department continued throughout the City as he helped direct the largest rescue and recovery operation in history.He joined Giuliani Partners where he and the former Mayor and other top management experts work with businesses and industries to implement innovative management strategies to address a variety of corporate issues ranging from restructuring to bringing new innovations to the marketplace. |
