Thomas Trainer Biography :

Mr. Trainer is a well-recognized and awarded leader in the business technology field. He has served on the BTM Corporation's board of directors in various capacities from its inception. As Executive Chairman of BTM Global 2000, Mr. Trainer focuses on executing the company's growth plan in the area of Global 2000 customer expansion, industry alliances, and strategic partnerships. The solutions of BTM Global 2000 address topics of particular significance to the CxO suite throughout many of the world's leading corporations with a comprehensive set of business-centric solutions that leverage the extensive research, products, and IP of BTM Corporation whereby improving the strategic position and financial performance of Global 2000 organizations to accelerate business technology convergence.

He is a contributing author on The Alignment Effect (Financial Times/Prentice Hall; August 23, 2002) and a co-author of Winning The 3-Legged Race (BTM Institute/Prentice Hall, November 8, 2005).

Most recently as PepsiCo's Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, he led the company's 2,300-member information technology organization, PepsiCo Business Solutions Group (PBSG), where he had an annual operating budget of >$1.4B. He was responsible for all technology decisions and operations, and worked in collaboration with PepsiCo's division leaders to drive business growth and competitive advantage by leveraging information technology across the company.

Throughout the course of his 40-year career, he has helped bring the likes of Citigroup, Eli Lilly and Company, Reebok International, and Joseph E. Seagram and Sons to the forefront of their industries. His long list of credits include receipt of InformationWeek's CIO of the Year award for his IT stewardship of Reebok's global business process redesign, tribute in CIO magazine's 10th anniversary issue as "Quintessential CIO" for his vision and leadership, recipient of "The Albert Einstein Award for Information Technology," and inclusion as a select member of specialized industry and government task forces such as the President's Council for "United States Strategic Infrastructure in 21st Century" and the Center for Strategic International Studies (CSIS).

Mr. Trainer has served on customer advisory boards of Fortune 500 companies, aiding industry giants such as NCR Corporation and Computer Associates. In addition, he has worked over the years to elevate the role of the CIO from the backroom to the boardroom, having helped found the Working Council for CIOs of the Advisory Board and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association CIO Forum.

Mr. Trainer lectures internationally on business and technology issues, having shared the agenda of 1998's "World Congress of Information Technology" with globally prominent leaders such as Margaret Thatcher, Mikhail Gorbachev, Steve Forbes, Michael Dell, Larry Ellison, and Scott McNealy. He is often featured in top business and trade publications including, BusinessWeek, Forbes, Fortune, The Financial Times, CIO Magazine and InformationWeek, and has also been profiled on CBS's "American Edition" and CNBC's "Technology Edge" television broadcast programs.

Highlighted Achievements:

Seagram : Led the Business Technology Transformation Initiative to successfully enable a major business process transformation effort in the USA. Included in this major project were new financials, new manufacturing and supply chain systems, and a "state of the art" sales automation system utilizing Field Force Laptops. Also transformed IT within Seagram's International Division creating an effective collaboration of IT leaders around the world. Under his leadership, Seagram's became an early adopter of outsourcing via a significantly effective partnership with an Israeli software house in the days before DSL and today's powerful software.

Reebok : Successfully enabled the first-ever Business Process Transformation at Reebok Worldwide. Results included new financial systems, new supply chain management worldwide, leading edge technology-driven product design for footwear and apparel, and utilization of a new global communications network (The Reebok Information Highway), which linked designers in several continents to reduce lead-time from months to days and effectively close the loop in the manufacturing outsourcer factories enabling speedy quotes and visibility. Formed a major partnership with Infosys for onsite analysis and Bangalore-based systems development, producing cost-effective delivery of new capabilities throughout the business. Also delivered state of the art laptop capability to the sales force with a graphics catalogue and preview of TV ads, before that capability was available in the footwear industry. As a result of these initiatives, InformationWeek named Trainer "CIO of the Year" for his leadership.

Lilly : Transformed 19 siloed information technology organizations into a single global function. Effectively integrated the organization through a business model that changed drastically to the truly global management of research, clinical trials, manufacturing and FDA submissions as well as effectively enabling superior sales and post-sales support, in addition to data-gathering and analysis of patient reactions. Revolutionized FDA submissions in the pharmaceutical industry via CDRom/Electronic Analysis, versus the old method of delivering several truckloads of paper to the FDA. For three years running, Eli Lilly IT was awarded 1st Place in "Effective IT Utilization in Pharmaceutical Industry." In 1998, CIO Magazine's 10th Anniversary Edition recognized Trainer as the "Quintessential CIO". BusinessWeek also recognized Eli Lilly as having the most effective intranet in the pharmaceutical industry.
