Dr. Thomas Enders was appointed Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer in August 2007. Previously, he was Chief Executive Officer of EADS, a position he held since June 2005. Since June 2006, he has been Chairman of the Airbus Shareholder Committee.
Mr Enders began his professional career in 1982 as an assistant in the German Federal Parliament. From 1985, he worked as a Research Associate at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in St. Augustin, and subsequently at the German Council on Foreign Affairs in Bonn and at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London.
From 1989 to 1991, he was a member of the Planning Staff of the German Ministry of Defence in Bonn.
In 1991, Tom Enders joined MBB/Dasa, holding various marketing positions before becoming Corporate Secretary and Head of the Dasa Chairman's Office in 1995. Later on, he served for more than three years as Director Corporate Development and Technology at Dasa.
Following the creation of EADS in 2000, Tom Enders was appointed CEO of the EADS Defence and Security Systems Division. He held this position until June 2005 when he was appointed CEO of EADS. He has been a Member of the EADS Executive Committee since 2000.
In April 2005, Enders was elected President of the German Aerospace Industries Association BDLI. In June 2005 he also took the chair of the Atlantik-Brücke e.V, a non-profit organisation aimed at strengthening the transatlantic ties between Germany and the United States.
Tom Enders studied Economics, Political Science and History at the University of Bonn and at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA). In 1987 he received a doctorate in Political Science from the University of Bonn. Mr Enders is a Major (Reserve) in the German army.
Tom Enders was born in December 1958 in Neuschlade, Germany. He is married and has four sons. In his spare time he enjoys various kinds of sports including mountaineering, skiing and skydiving. Tom Enders holds a Private Pilot's License (PPL) for helicopters. |
