Mr. Johnson has over twenty years of investment banking experience concentrated in insurance and insurance-related company assignments including equity and debt financing, mergers & acquisitions, advisory and demutualization transactions. Prior to co-founding Signal Hill, Mr. Johnson was a Managing Director in the Insurance Investment Banking Group at Alex. Brown & Sons and its successors, BT Alex. Brown and DB Alex. Brown. Notable companies on whose transactions Mr. Johnson has worked include: American General Corporation, Amerisafe, BCBS United of Wisconsin, Capital Re, Employers Insurance Group, the Equitable, Guarantee Life Companies, Hilb, Rogal and Hamilton, Irish Life & Permanent, John Alden Financial, Life Partners Group, Lincoln National, Markel Corporation, Mutual Risk Management, New England Mutual, NYMAGIC, Paul Revere, Phoenix Companies, RISCORP, USF&G, and XL Ltd. Prior to joining Alex. Brown & Sons, Mr. Johnson was a reinsurance professional with General Reinsurance Corporation from 1979 to 1984 and worked in the Global Insurance Division of Citibank in 1985. Mr. Johnson earned his BA from Trinity College and his MBA from the Harvard Business School.
