Thomas W. Elward is president and chief operating officer of CMS Enterprises, the diversified energy business unit for CMS Energy. He was appointed to this position in 2003. Before being named to his current position, Elward had been president and chief executive officer for CMS Generation, the independent power unit of CMS Enterprises. He was appointed to that position in 2001 after serving as senior vice president of plant operations and asset management for CMS Generation.Elward was elected vice president of CMS Generation in 1990 after an 18-year career with Consumers Energy. From 1987 to 1990, he served as general manager of the utility’s Big Rock Point nuclear plant near Charlevoix, Mich. Before that, he held increasingly responsible engineering and management positions in the operations and generating plant support areas.Elward earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering, summa cum laude, from the University of Detroit in 1971 and a Master of Science degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Illinois in 1972. He completed the Harvard Business School program for management development in 1983. |
