Tom Johnson is President and Chief Executive Officer Emeritus of BAI (Bank Administration Institute), a leading professional organization devoted exclusively to improving performance of financial services companies through strategic research, information, education and training. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Chicago-based organization. Under his leadership, BAI entered into new international markets in Europe and Asia, completed the acquisition of Bankers Training Company which diversified revenue and improved profitability significantly.
Johnson served as executive vice president, retail banking at Boatmen's Bancshares in St. Louis before his appointment as president and CEO of BAI. Boatmen's was a $42Billion Bank with 650 branches in nine states. He began his banking career at The First National Bank of Tampa in Florida. He next joined NCNB (now Bank of America) in North Carolina and rose to trust division executive before his appointment to President and CEO at Barnett Banks Trust Company, NA in Jacksonville Florida. He was promoted to chief executive, retail banking at Barnett Banks, Inc. In this position he was responsible for branch and non-branch retail delivery, consumer finance, credit card, mortgage lending, marketing, insurance, trust and brokerage.
Johnson received his BS degree from the University of South Carolina School of Business and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of South Florida. He also completed banking programs at Northwestern University's National Trust School and the Executive Program at Colgate-Darden's Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia. A U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, Johnson twice received the Distinguished Flying Cross for missions flown in Vietnam. |
