Tom Senkbeil joined Post Properties, Inc. in June 2003 as Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer. Mr. Senkbeil’s real estate career spans 30 years, having wide-ranging experience in areas of development, acquisitions, dispositions, asset management and joint ventures. At Post, he is responsible for the Post Investment Group which comprises all development, acquisition, disposition and asset management activities for the company. During his tenure, Post has initiated over $300 million in new development with a pending pipeline of approximately $1 billion, rebuilt its investment and developing infrastructure and sold in excess of $400 million of properties while purchasing over $225 million of existing properties.
Prior to Post, Mr. Senkbeil was COO and President of Carter & Associates, a leading regional full-service real estate firm, overseeing the daily operation of Carter’s four business units: Brokerage, Corporate Real Estate Services, Development, and Property Management and Leasing. During his tenure, Mr. Senkbeil re-initiated the company’s presence in the investment and development field with projects in both the industrial and office areas in Georgia, Florida and North Carolina. The largest project initiated is a $100 million mixed-use project in joint venture with Progress Energy in Raleigh, North Carolina. Mr. Senkbeil also focused the company strongly on profitability of its internal business units, decreasing annual overhead by more than 15% to maintain good profitability during turbulent market times.
Before joining Carter & Associates, Mr. Senkbeil was Chief Investment Officer and a member of the Board of Directors at Duke Weeks Realty Corporation, the largest combined office and industrial REIT in the U.S., owning over 100 million square feet located across 16 major U.S. markets. Prior to its merger to form Duke Weeks, Mr. Senkbeil was the Vice Chairman of Weeks Corporation. At Weeks, Mr. Senkbeil led the company’s efforts through its IPO in 1994, and the expansion of the Weeks portfolio from 4 million square feet in Atlanta to 30 million square feet located in nine southeastern markets. He was responsible for all acquisition and development activity, in addition to planning and development, build-to-suit transactions, and structuring joint ventures.
In 1984 Mr. Senkbeil co-founded Andersen & Senkbeil, Inc. which developed 4 million square feet of office and industrial space in metropolitan Atlanta. In 1992 he merged the company with A.R. Weeks & Associates to form Weeks Corporation. Prior to that, he held positions with Laing Properties and Cousins Properties.
Mr. Senkbeil is a nationally recognized leader within the industry, having served as chairman of its largest organization, NAIOP, in 1996. He is also active in business and civic organizations and has served on the board of trustees for the Galloway School in Atlanta and other charitable and civic organizations.
Mr. Senkbeil has a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University and a MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
