Law Practice A. Thomas Levin is a Member of the law firm of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein P.C., and Chair of the firm's Municipal Law, Land Use and Environmental Compliance practice. Mr. Levin concentrates his practice in the fields of local government law, land use regulation, and commercial litigation, representing both private and public sector clients. He presently serves as Village Attorney for seven Nassau County villages and is the Special Prosecutor for the Village of North Hills. He serves or has served as special counsel to scores of other municipalities and school districts, including Nassau County, the City of Long Beach, the City of Glen Cove, the Town of Hempstead, the Town of North Hempstead, the Copiague School District, Rockville Centre School District, Hempstead School District, Hewlett-Woodmere School District, Western Suffolk Board of Cooperative Education, Town of Brookhaven, Great Neck/North Shore Cable Commission and The Public Access Television Corporation.Professional Profile Mr. Levin is Past-President of the New York State Bar Association (June 2003 - June 2004) and is a Life Member of that Association's House of Delegates. He served as a member of the NYSBA Executive Committee, as Vice President, as an At Large Member, and as Secretary, from 1995 to 2005. He is also a member of the NYSBA Municipal Law Section Executive Committee, and has served as Chair, member or Executive Committee Liaison to many committees of that Association, including the Task Force on Pay to Play Concerns, the Special Committee on Law Firm Structure and Operations (MDP), the Bylaws Committee, the Electronic Communications Task Force, the President's Special Committee on Access to Justice, the Special Committee on Court Structure and Judicial Selection, the Special Committee on Legal Issues Affecting Same Sex Couples, and the Nominating Committee. He also serves on the Judicial Qualification Commission for the Tenth Judicial District.Since 1971, Mr. Levin has been the Editor of the "Bench Book for Trial Judges," first published by the New York State Judicial Conference and the Office of Court Administration, and now published by Thomson-West. He is also the author of numerous other legal articles. He is a frequent lecturer on legal topics including commercial litigation, zoning and land use, civil rights law, municipal law, environmental quality review compliance, professional ethics, current professional issues, and law office management.Recognition Mr. Levin has been recognized by Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. He was the recipient of the "Commitment to Justice" Award presented by the Nassau/Suffolk Law Services Committee in 2002, recognizing the strong support he has given to pro bono services, his outstanding leadership in the legal community and his devotion to improving the justice system on Long Island. In 2006, he was awarded the "Public Interest Attorney of the Year" from Touro Law Center. Mr. Levin is rated "AV" by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest level in professional excellence and ethics. Mr. Levin was the May 2003 Alumnus of the Month for New York University School of Law.Professional Affiliations Mr. Levin is a former President of the Nassau County Bar Association, and is a Life Member of that Association's Board of Directors. He is a Trustee and Sustaining Fellow of the New York State Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation, a member of the American Bar Association House of Delegates, a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association, a past President of the Bar Association of Nassau County Fund, Inc., and a co-founder and former Vice President of the Nassau Bar Tech Center, Inc. He is a former President of the National Caucus of State Bar Associations, a former member of the Executive Committee of the National Conference of Bar Presidents, former member of the Brown University Alumni Association Board of Governors, and former President of the Brown University Club of Long Island, Inc. He is also a Trustee of the Nassau Land Trust and serves as Secretary of this organization. Mr. Levin is also a Trustee, and Counsel, to the Historical Society of the Courts of the State of New York.Community Involvement In the public service field, Mr. Levin has been counsel to the Judiciary Committee of the New York State Assembly, and to the Joint Legislative Committee on the State's Economy, and has been active in numerous community and charitable organizations. He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Long Island Community Foundation, the Nassau Symphony Orchestra, the Nassau County Legal Aid Society and the Advisory Board member of the Government Law Center at Albany Law School . Mr. Levin is a member of the Land Use Law Center Conference Board at Pace Law School, and a member of the Advisory Council of Nassau/Suffolk Law Services, Inc. Mr. Levin has been pro bono general counsel to the Day Care Council of Nassau County, Inc. and the Rosa Lee Young Childhood Center for over thirty years, and represents many other not for profit organizations and individuals on a pro bono basis. Admissions Mr. Levin is admitted to practice law in New York, Florida, the United States Virgin Islands, and the United States Supreme Court. He is also admitted to the United States District Court, Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, and to the United States Circuit Court of Appeals, Second Circuit.
