Terry Waters is senior vice president and chief marketing officer (CMO) for Gartner. He leads Global Marketing, Corporate Communications and Emerging Businesses, including Best Practices Councils for Gartner. In this capacity, Waters is responsible for the company’s marketing strategy, client acquisition programs, brand promotion, public relations and new business model innovation plans.
Before becoming senior vice president and CMO, Waters was senior vice president and general manager of Gartner Executive Programs. Under his leadership, the Executive Programs business grew to over 3,500 senior IT executive members, the largest senior IT executive community in the world.
Waters has more than 24 years of sales, marketing and product leadership experience in the IT industry. Prior to rejoining Gartner four years ago, Waters was the chief operating officer (COO) for ScreamingMedia, an Internet content syndication solutions provider based in New York City.
From 1985-1999, Waters spent 14 years with Gartner in a variety of senior sales, marketing and product leadership roles, including head of Eastern Region sales for North America and head of worldwide marketing. In 1994, he started Gartner’s highly successful IT Executive Program (ITEP) offering and, during the next four years, grew the membership to more than 1,000 senior IT executives around the world.
Waters started his career with Xerox Corporation, where he spent four years in sales and field marketing, based in New York City.
