Terry Roemer, senior counsel to the firm, specializes in providing advice regarding labor and employment issues to the firm's clients and litigating and arbitrating employment cases for public employers. Before joining the firm, Terry worked for Liebert, Cassidy & Frierson for over five years, where she provided labor and employment advice to and represented California cities, counties, special districts, school districts and community colleges in litigation and arbitrations. Previously, Terry worked for Ruiz & Schapiro for two years, where she represented California school districts and community colleges in labor and employment matters.Terry is admitted to practice law in both California and New York. While in New York, she served as assistant general counsel for the City University of New York, providing advice on labor and employment issues to university and college administrators, as well as coordinating the university's legislative program.Terry currently provides advice to public entities on a wide variety of public sector labor and employment matters, including state and federal employment and labor law compliance, labor relations and collective bargaining issues, sexual harassment, discrimination, internal investigations, employee performance evaluations and discipline, employee's medical leave rights, disability accommodation issues, employee privacy issues, wage and hour laws, CalPERS retirement benefits issues, and Brown Act compliance. Terry has also litigated cases involving claims of harassment, discrimination, whistleblowing, retaliation and wrongful termination. She has also represented various public entities in numerous grievance and disciplinary arbitrations, in CalPERS hearings involving appeals of disability retirement determinations, PERB proceedings, and DFEH and EEOC investigations. She has conducted workplace investigations for both private and public sector employers relating to claims of harassment, discrimination and other workplace misconduct. She has participated in workplace mediations and alternative dispute resolution processes.In addition, Terry has written appellate briefs, and, in 2000 and 2001, authored amicus briefs for the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court regarding the Cargill v. Metropolitan Water District case. She has also authored articles on CalPERS retirement issues and employee use of email in the workplace.Terry received her B.A. in English Literature from Wellesley College and her J.D. from New York University Law School. |
