Ted Sanders has had a wide-range of experiences as an educator, including classroom teacher, chief state school officer in three states, acting U.S. secretary of education, university president, and most recently president of the Education Commission of the States (ECS). Mr. Sanders was appointed executive chairman of Cardean Learning Group in February 2005 after serving as president of ECS since February 2000. His previous credentials include president of Southern Illinois University from 1995-2000, and Ohio superintendent of public instruction from 1991-95. As deputy secretary of education (1989-91) he also held the post of acting U.S. secretary of education from November 1990 to March 1991. Mr. Sanders served as Illinois state superintendent of education from 1985-89, after having spent about six years in that position in Nevada. Earlier, he taught in the Mountain Home, Idaho, and Bureau of Indian Affairs public school systems, and worked for the New Mexico Department of Education. |
