Sunny C. Vanderbeck is founder and chief executive officer of Data Return. Under his leadership, Data Return grew from a start-up company in 1996 through an initial public offering on the NASDAQ in 1999 with a market capitalization in excess of $3 billion to its current position as a leading provider of managed services and IT operations outsourcing. Data Return brings enterprise-class solutions to the mid-market through its experienced team of IT Operations professionals and substantial investment in operations management technologies providing unmatched levels of availability, performance, flexibility and security.
As an Army Ranger, Vanderbeck learned how to succeed under challenging circumstances, but also how to motivate and lead others to new levels of performance. Investing in the potential of Data Return’s employees is an important focus for Vanderbeck. Keeping employees engaged and motivated leads to better customer satisfaction and in turn to superior business performance. In an industry with a tumultuous history, Vanderbeck has led his team to challenge the norms, and over half of its employees have been with the company for more than five years. Data Return is enjoying its fourth year of profitability, and leads the way in customer satisfaction and technical excellence.
Vanderbeck’s determination and commitment to Data Return’s guiding principles enabled him to lead Data Return through a public offering and face changing economic times and a public merger, all while retaining employees and strategic clients. Subsequent to a repurchase with a private equity buyout, Data Return has reported continued growth and complete elimination of third-party debt.
At Data Return, Vanderbeck has established a high-performance, results-driven organization based on a foundation of leadership, learning and forward momentum. He regularly speaks on the topics of Learning Organizations and Integral Leadership at events throughout North America. He serves on the Board of Regents for the Stagen Leadership Institute, sits on the Strategic Planning Committee for the Metrocrest Hospital Authority, counsels a number of mid-market companies across a variety of industries and is an active member of the Young President’s Organization.
Recognized as a visionary in the managed hosting industry, Vanderbeck was named one of the top 25 technology leaders in Dallas by Ernst & Young in 2000 and 2001. He is often asked to appear at conferences around the world to share his views on how the managed hosting industry will evolve in the years to come. |
