Sue Lee, senior vice president of human resources and communications, joined Suncor in 1996.
She leads the human resources and communications functions, ensuring the strategies and programs to achieve Suncor’s ambitious growth priorities and goals are in place.
Sue oversees the development and co-ordination of executive compensation, internal and external communications, government relations, compensation, staffing, leadership development, and shared services such as benefits, payroll and pensions. Her focus is on supporting Suncor’s long-term growth strategies and company-wide initiatives.
Sue is a cabinet campaign member for the Bow Valley College Foundation. She also serves on the Taking Pulse Executive Steering Committee of the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation and is president of the Suncor Energy Foundation. In 2003, 2004 and 2005, the Women’s Executive Network named Sue to the Top 100 List of Canada's Most Powerful Women. In 2005, Sue was presented with the Alberta Centennial Medal in recognition to her outstanding contributions to the province.
Before working at Suncor, Sue was vice president of human resources at TransAlta Corporation. During her 14 years there, her positions included director of quality and organization change, project manager of quality of service, and manager of human resources.
Educated in South Africa, Sue earned her bachelor of arts degree in anthropology and psychology at Rhodes University, and her postgraduate diploma in organizational behaviour at the Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Witwatersrand.
Sue is married and has two stepsons.
