Prior to joining Seegrid, Stuart was a software consultant in a number of specialized fields including product development in a next-generation industrial robot calibration system, and animal gait analysis for automated drug candidate analysis.
Stuart was the main system designer and programmer at Aethon responsible for all higher level control software for a mobile robot currently working in multiple hospitals for delivery of non-essential supplies. Stuart's work included path planning, mapping, navigation, elevator interaction, obstacle handling and avoidance, remote operation, safe visitor and patient interaction and the user interface. Key to this project was the creation and ultimate performance of a highly reliable, easy to use robot.
Before that time Stuart was a post-doctoral researcher at CMU and worked on a highway obstacle detection system for Toyota where he was involved in the real-time system integration effort. Stuart additionally worked on a bottle mold reader for a project with Kirin as well as on a hallway analysis project (door and door handle identification) for Honda's humanoid robot.
Stuart was a research assistant in the Robotics Research Group, Oxford University - working on an augmented reality system for use in the nuclear industry.
Stuart achieved his PhD in Robotics Research Group, Oxford University with his thesis "A Stereo Tracking and Structure Recovery System" which involved work on an active stereo head, including hardware and software analysis of the system to achieve high performance.
Stuart has a MEng Engineering and Computing Science from the Department of Engineering Science, Oxford University. |
