Stewart F. Grossman specializes in commercial and financial problems including business and bankruptcy reorganization, "workouts," corporate transactions, and commercial litigation. He has served as a Bankruptcy Trustee and State Court Receiver since 1976 on thousands of cases in addition to acting as counsel to debtors, creditors' committees, Trustees and Receivers. In these capacities, he has reorganized businesses and individuals, liquidated tangible and intangible assets, negotiated complicated disputes, and litigated when necessary irresolvable commercial situations. Stewart was born in New York City, New York. He was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1973, after receiving his degree from Boston College Law School (J.D., cum laude, 1973) and American University (B.S. 1969). He also is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Stewart has been a member of the firm’s Management Committee since 1980.In 1995, Stewart was appointed to the panel of Chapter 7 Trustees for the District of Massachusetts. In March 2002 and July 2003, he received the Trustee of the Year Award from the United States Department of Justice, Boston, Massachusetts, United States Trustee's Office. Stewart is President of the Red Auerbach Youth Foundation, Inc., which sponsors a variety of sports and recreational programs for boys and girls throughout Massachusetts with an emphasis on its motto "To Participate Is To Win" which combines sports with educational and social components. He has served as a council member, Secretary and Treasurer of the Alumni Council of Boston College Law School and was a member of the Executive Committee from 1991 to 2001. In 2005, Stewart was appointed a member of the Board of Trustees of the Boston Ballet and serves on the Finance and Venue Committees. From 2005-2007, he was named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Anti-Defamation League and the Combined Jewish Philanthropies. In 2001, Stewart was elected to be and still serves on the Board of River Court Condominiums in Cambridge, MA and has been the Chairman and Treasurer. |
