Dr. Kirshblum received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School (IL) and was chief resident at Mt. Sinai Hospital and Affiliates (New York, NY). He was board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation in 1991 and became one of the first physicians in the country to receive special certification in spinal cord injury medicine in 1998.
He joined Kessler in 1990 and currently serves as Director of the Spinal Cord Injury Program. Dr. Kirshblum leads the spinal cord injury and ventilator programs and leads the spinal cord injury team administratively and with direct patient care.
Dr. Kirshblum serves as the Co-Project Director of the Northern New Jersey Model Spinal Cord Program. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Alan Brown Foundation to Cure Spinal Cord Injury, the Board of Directors of the Christopher Reeve Foundation, and serves as the Spinal Cord Injury Fellowhip Program Director at UMDNJ - Medical School.
An editorial Board Member of the Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine, Dr. Kirshblum has authored and co-authored over 58 articles in peer reviewed publications and has completed 15 book chapters, over 40 abstracts, and monographs on his major research interests in spinal cord injury, the use of electrodiagnosis.
Dr. Kirshblum, one of the most widely respected physicians in his field, has delivered over 250 lectures locally and nationally on spinal cord injury rehabilitation and various other disorders. He has been honored for both his clinical and administrative talents in being named one of the "Best Doctors in America," "Best Doctors in New York" and "Best Doctors in New Jersey." |
