Steven Ortquist serves as Senior Vice President, Ethics & Compliance/Chief Compliance Officer for Tenet Healthcare Corporation. He is responsible for oversight and operation of Tenet's overall ethics & compliance program.
Ortquist, 42, joined Tenet in August 2005 after serving as Vice President Ethics and Compliance/Chief Compliance Officer for Banner Health in Phoenix a non-profit operator of 21 acute care hospitals in seven Western states. In that role, Ortquist developed, implemented and was responsible for the operation of Banner’s ethics & compliance program. Prior to joining Banner Health, Ortquist served as director of corporate compliance at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. His career experience also includes practice as an attorney specializing in healthcare corporate and regulatory matters, and as chief financial officer for a multi-specialty physician practice.
Ortquist currently serves as second vice president of the board of directors of the Health Care Compliance Association. He also serves on the test writing and exam review committee for the Healthcare Compliance Certification Board. He has written and spoken extensively on health care legal and compliance topics, and is a co-editor of the Healthcare Compliance Professionals Manual.
Ortquist holds a bachelor’s degree in business from John Brown University and a law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. Ortquist is licensed to practice law in Michigan, Illinois and the District of Columbia. He is certified in health care compliance by the Healthcare Compliance Certification Board.
