Steven C. Tabackman is a veteran trial lawyer with more than 25 years' experience handling cases in the criminal, civil, and administrative enforcement arenas throughout the United States. He has trial experience in cases involving securities fraud, money laudering, financial institutions, environmental regulation, and other complex business issues. In 1995, he gained national recognition for his successful defense of the former director of the White House Travel Office ("Travelgate"), and in 1997 was recognized by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the Washington area's 50 top lawyers, largely as a result of that victory. He has also been profiled in American Lawyer Magazine and with Tom Patton in U.S. Law Weekly. He is one of the founding partners of Tighe Patton Armstrong Teasdale, PLLC.

Since entering the private sector in 1988, Mr. Tabackman's practice has focused on the representation of businesses (and their officers, directors, and employees) in both criminal and quasi-criminal enforcement proceedings in federal courts, before Congress, and before agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Environmental Protection Agency. More recently, while at another firm, Mr. Tabackman was called on to apply his litigation skills in the intellectual property area. He successfully defended foreign and domestic corporations against claims of patent infringement; he also achieved favorable settlements for plaintiff corporations in trademark infringement cases.

Before entering private practice, Mr. Tabackman spent 10 years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, during which time he had over 100 jury trials and handled hundreds more cases that were resolved pre-trial. As a federal prosecutor he supervised grand jury investigations into insurance fraud, federal program fraud, bribery, public corruption, and RICO. In 1987, he received the National Association of Federal Investigators' Outstanding Prosecutor Award for his successful investigation and prosecution of a multi-million dollar federal insurance fraud that served as a model for similar prosecutions throughout the country.

Mr. Tabackman is a 1971 graduate, with distinction, of the University of Virginia College of Arts & Sciences and a 1976 graduate of its School of Law. Upon graduation, he clerked at the trial level for Judge Leonard Braman and then for Chief Judge Theodore R. Newman, Jr., of the D.C. Court of Appeals. From 1992 to 1994, he served as Associate Independent Counsel into the State Department's handling of records pertaining to William Jefferson Clinton during the 1992 election.

Mr. Tabackman is a member of the D.C. Bar and the Virginia State Bar. He has been an instructor at the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) and at the University of Virginia School of Law.
