Steven Ethington serves as Executive Vice President in the firm’s Chicago office, being involved in various aspects of retained search for the last five years, and bringing with him over 25 years of diversified experience in both large and small companies. Mr. Ethington has developed a generalist search practice in industrial products, consumer products, financial services, and life sciences. He has demonstrated an expertise in general management in large firms, but has also been involved in a broad spectrum of responsibilities in early stage development companies. In these endeavors, he has shown an ability to coordinate the efforts of a diverse team and deliver results. He looks forward to bringing this same winning spirit to the unique search process and product of DHR International Inc. and its clients. After completing his MBA at Kellogg, Mr. Ethington began his career at the Quaker Oats Company, with varying assignments in finance and marketing. He was promoted to Supervisor of Financial Analysis in less than a year, where he had a significant impact on Quaker’s management information system, developing a variable gross profit analysis approach that is still used today. He then took on several assignments in marketing, culminating in the introduction of a $100 million business, with a $30 million advertising and merchandising budget. While at Quaker, Mr. Ethington was Chairman of the first Career Planning Program at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Recruited to R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company, Mr. Ethington excelled in sales and became one of the most successful new business salesmen in the company. He was promoted to Vice President Marketing & Sales for a new venture coordinating the efforts of over 300 sales people nationwide. He has also been an Officer, Director, and Corporate Secretary for early-stage companies, providing him with a broad spectrum of experiences to bring to his search practice. On a personal note, Mr. Ethington was a scholarship football player at Northwestern University, where he also received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He has remained active with the University and the fraternity, serving as President of the Alumni Association, and Chairman of the first reunion committee for Kellogg. He is an active supporter of the charities of Northwestern University Dance Marathon, and has served as Chairman of the Finance Committee for his local high school. Mr. Ethington has also actively supported the Boy Scouts of America as Chairman of their annual fundraising campaign. Mr. Ethington is 54, resides in Glenview, Illinois, is married to his lovely and industrious wife Mary, and has three boys: Rob(25), Tom(23), and Jim (21)
