Steve's litigation and real estate practices are focused on land use and, in particular, eminent domain-in which he has represented both condemning authorities and landowners before county condemnation commissions and circuit courts. He has experience with a broad array of land use matters, including tax incremental districts and zoning. In connection with his energy practice, Steve regularly represents the Wisconsin Industrial Energy Group, Inc., and others in regulatory matters before the Public Service Commission and in appeals to the circuit and appellate courts. Steve is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the American Bar Association, the Dane County Bar Association, and the Inns of Court, James E. Doyle, Jr. Chapter. Steve earned his Masters (1995) and Bachelors (1990) degrees in English from Marquette University and graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School (J.D. 1998), where he was a staff member for the Wisconsin International Law Journal and the Environmental Moot Court team. Prior to joining Godfrey & Kahn, Steve served as an associate on the litigation team at a large, national law firm, where he focused his practice on eminent domain matters, including one involving the condemnation of more than 150 rural properties. Steve also served as law clerk to the Hon. Donald W. Steinmetz, Wisconsin Supreme Court.
