Steve Prinzivalli is thrilled to be a aboard the WeatherBug team, joining the crew in February 2008 as an Internet Broadcast Meteorologist. He likes to make weathercasts as fun and entertaining as possible while giving you the all-important forecast to help plan your day in snow or sunshine!
His interest in weather was sparked by a massive snowstorm that pounded suburban Philadelphia in February 1983 with nearly two feet of snow. This "Blizzard of 1983" soon turned Prinzivalli into an amateur meteorologist. He'd spend hours making raindrops, snowflakes, cold fronts, and high pressure cells to put on a map to use for his exclusive weathercasts. With dad or big brother manning the video camera, Prinzivalli would practice doing weathercasts in the basement of his house at the age of nine!
In high school, he honed his communication skills by doing play-by-play commentary of football, basketball, and baseball games at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. A lifelong sports fan, Prinzivalli loved describing the live action for his high school TV station, a skill that proved valuable for doing the weather since both are non-scripted.
He followed his dream to Penn State University (go Lions!) where he graduated with High Distinction and earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Meteorology. While at Penn State, Prinzivalli gained valuable forecasting and broadcasting experience with the Campus Weather Service and also got to shake hands with legendary football coach, Joe Paterno!
After graduation, Prinzivalli's dream was realized as he landed a job as FOX meteorologist at KSNW-TV, a big WeatherBug partner station in Wichita, KS. He spent a year-and-a-half in the heart of "Tornado Alley" before moving on to Binghamton, NY, at WIVT/WBGH-TV. It's here that he truly got his fill of lake-effect snow with an incredible 122 inches in his first winter there! While in Upstate, he also hosted the Backyard Grilling Series during summers and filled in on-air at WSYR-TV in Syracuse. Prinzivalli has also worked at WHIO-TV, the powerhouse CBS station and WeatherBug client in Dayton, OH. Prinzivalli's career journey hasn't been only in television; he also has taught meteorology to students at Broome Community College and West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
Fun Fact: When his head isn't stuck in the cirrus clouds, Prinzivalli enjoys working out, running, playing tennis, staying very active in the Catholic Church community, and whipping up good food. His signature dishes include pepperoni bread, sticky buns, and whole wheat pizza with all the toppings- mushrooms, peppers, pepperoni, and plenty of mozzarella. He might even take your order for lunch but in the meantime, he'll work on cooking up a good weather forecast for you at WeatherBug! |
