Mr. Brannan assists health care organizations in compliance assessment and remediation activities, including program evaluation, compliance management assessment, auditing, and in-depth compliance issue and fraud and abuse analysis. Mr. Brannan comes to Strategic Management after serving for over eight years as the Corporate Compliance Officer for the University of Alabama Health Service Foundation, Birmingham, Alabama, an 800 physician group practice, with 2500 employees and annual healthcare billing of $600 million. In this position he was responsible for overseeing and monitoring the Corporate Compliance program, including the development and implementation of compliance policies, procedures and practices, development, coordination and participation in new employee and annual compliance education programs, review and investigation of reports of non-compliance, and serve as a resource across the organization on substantive compliance questions and issues. He reported directly to the President and Board of Directors on compliance matters. Prior to his work as a Corporate Compliance Officer, Mr. Brannan served as a Special Agent for the US Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), where he was responsible for investigating violations of federal laws, primarily white-collar crime including public corruption and allegations of Medicare fraud and abuse. He worked for ten years on matters concerning national security, and was a member of the Critical Incident Negotiation Team, traveling throughout the world to consult on hostage negotiations. Mr. Brannan is an expert in classic investigative techniques including interviews, consensual recordings, record reviews, physical and electronic surveillance. Mr. Brannan has a MA from Eastern Michigan University, a BA from Lipscomb University, and an AA from Alabama Christian College. He is a member and former Region IV Sec/Treasurer if the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), Board member and former President of the Healthcare Compliance Officers of Alabama, and was a member of the HCCA Steering Committee on Compliance Program Measurement. |
