Stephen M. Ward, Jr., is the retired CEO of Lenovo, the international company formed by the merger of Levovo of China and IBM’s PC business. As CEO of Lenovo, Ward established the global management team, the strategy, and the operational structure of this leading high technology company. Ward also serves on the board and the Audit and Strategy committees of Carpenter Technology, a specialty metals company, selling to the Medical and Aero industries.
Background: Prior to joining Lenovo and acquiring IBM's PC business, Ward was the senior vice president and general manager of IBM's Personal Systems Group, responsible for IBM's Retail Store Solutions Division, IBM's Printing Systems Division, and IBM's Personal Computing Division. In his 26 years with IBM, he held a number of key product development, manufacturing management, and senior management positions, including leading the IBM ThinkPad product line. Ward also held positions as the leader of IBM's Worldwide sales for all Industrial, Electronics, Chemical, and Aerospace companies, and was chief information officer of IBM. As CIO, Ward established IBM's information technology and business process direction and advised many IBM customers on their business transformations.
