Mr. Schaefer is a Managing Director of Riverstone. He has extensive M&A experience, principally in the power segment of the energy industry. He is based in Houston.
Mr. Schaefer started his career in 1987 in the Financial Advisory group at Ernst & Young in New York. He has been exclusively involved in the energy industry since 1993. He has bought, sold and managed power generation facilities, trading companies, mid-stream natural gas assets, and regulated gas and electric utilities in the United States, Latin America and Europe. His most extensive involvement has been in non-regulated power projects. He has led or had a material involvement in transactions involving more than 14,000 megawatts and an aggregate transaction value in excess of $8.5 billion.
Prior to joining Riverstone, Mr. Schaefer was a Managing Director with Huron Consulting Group, where he founded and headed its Energy Practice. While at Huron, Mr. Schaefer served as interim CEO for Boston Generating Company on behalf of a bank group that had taken ownership of the company. He advised acquirers, bank groups and creditors committees regarding power assets, including the Mirant and National Energy Group bankruptcies. Prior to joining Huron, Mr. Schaefer was Vice President with Duke Energy, where he headed the group responsible for acquisitions and divestitures of non-regulated power activities, including generation facilities, trading books and trading companies in North America. He also served on the Board of Directors or the Management Committees for its subsidiaries. Before joining Duke Energy, he served as Vice President with LG&E Energy Corporation, where he was responsible for domestic and international mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Schaefer received his B.S., magna cum laude, in finance and accounting from Northeastern University in 1987 and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst. |
