Since joining Mayer Brown in 1989, Stephen Brown has gained prominence both in corporate and pensions disputes and has a track record of substantial wins at trial. Chambers UK Directory (2007) described him as a lawyer who "...brings tenacity and a penchant for 'original thinking' to a busy commercial litigation practice" and he is ranked as a "leading individual" by the Chambers UK Directory (2008) for high value dispute resolution and pensions work. The current guide highlights "his insight into the nuances of corporate conflicts" and notes that he is regarded by peers and clients as a "very able" solicitor advocate and "switched-on and bright."
Stephen represents clients in controversies involving substantial warranty and other contractual and commercial claims. He has represented many of Mayer Brown's major corporate clients, including BASF, General Electric, Dow, and Ineos. In addition, Stephen regularly advises pension scheme trustees regarding alleged breaches of trust, the construction of pension scheme documentation, and investigations by the Pensions Ombudsman.
Stephen is a Higher Rights advocate and heads the firm's London office advocacy group.
